Hey, I bought Soldier' Soul last night on Steam. It's been more than 15 years since I last played a fighting game (last one was Street Fighter Alpha 3 on PlayStation 1).
I was pretty good at it but I'm terrible now. Would you have a YouTuber of Twitch streamer to recommend so that I can get better at it?
I found some pretty cool looking fights on YouTube but with no explanation/commentary on how to chain combos, continue combos from ground to aerial, and break free from an opponent combo (I can 'guard' but don't know how to get away). I also saw players doing very fast rushes into combos but I always get hit on the move when I try it. For now I'm on the story mode so I'm learning against the AI but I'd like to eventually graduate to online/VS battles one day. One last thing, I found a for the game that made it even more awesome.
Are you using an Xbox controller? If you are, then press RB to escape from combos (it costs more and more Cosmo every time you use it though so you can't keep escaping for cheap every time), and you can use the Right Trigger+A button dash move in the middle of a combo and then resume your combo after dashing. I can usually reliably pull off like 30-hit combos with the use of the dash move in my combos, it's fairly straight-forward once you get the hang of it. I would also like to play online, unfortunately i have pretty limited days that i can play on, and i live in america where i feel like not nearly as many people are going to be playing as in other places, so my connection to most players hasn't been too good when i do go online. But if you wanted to add me on steam then you could PM me a link to your steam or something and we could give it a try at some point. Thanks for the pointers. I think I figured some of it by myself during my session tonight.
I stopped at the end of the Posseidon arc for now and I can reliably beat the AI, even toy with it a bit to get the secondary objectives. I'll crank the difficulty up for the Hades chapter tomorrow, to see if I keep up. So far I managed to decently use the escape mechanism, grapple breaks and offensive charges. I can't use the offensive charges in combos yet though, only to initiate.

I'll work on that. I play with a Logitech controller based on the PlayStation controller. I hate those logs, and I find them useless in every game that has them because. 1) They register EVERY BUTTON PRESS even button presses that are smoothed over by the game's autocorrection, so, like a Shoryuken in Street fighter is 263P, right? Well according to training, a Shoryuken is also 236323P. But there is more than that!
In Soul Calibur, Sigfried's drop kick is 44K, right? Well in training, it's actually 4444KKKABKA. The button logs are completely worthless. Due to how much I spam Lightspeed mid combo-finisher Animation to make sure it goes off as fast as possible once the combo sequence completes, the majority of that log would just be the A button over and over again.

2) Even if you avoided 1 and got the button inputs perfect (virtually impossible for a 40 hit combo), in order to learn the combo, you have to watch the video over and over again to get the complete button sequence, which will be constantly scrolling off the screen.
